A tunnel to take the new Crossrail train service has been dug right under old London from east to west. It has brought to light many domestic and commercial artefacts which have lain for centuries undiscovered in the sludge of the riverbed. We will see them in the afternoon.
But first we will visit an exhibition illustrating the amazing history of tunnelling under the Thames. The first tunnel was undertaken by Isambard Kingdom Brunel who designed a special machine for the purpose.
We have booked a Blue Badge guide, who will explain things, deepen our knowledge and so add to our enjoyment. Do take this opportunity to see with your own eyes the unfolding of London’s history from the earliest times. It will be a fascinating day out.
You will be able to find somewhere for lunch locally, or you could take a picnic.
