Picnic in the Park

Last year over 100 came to the Hill at Buckland Lake, so do not miss out this year! Following the great success of our last three picnics, we cannot let Summer 2026 – and the 35th Anniversary of Dorking U3A – pass without a reprise of this very popular event.
If you have not been before, the hill above Buckland Lake is a stunning venue. We provide tables and benches (but you are welcome to bring your own chairs if you want a bit more comfort), and the trees provide some shade. Put together a party from one of your groups, or just come with a bunch of friends – bring your own picnic, and have a ball!
We hope many members will join in – bring your friends and make up a party. Seating and tables are provided but bring your own picnic and just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and good company.
Places cost £12 for members and non-members alike. Included in the price are entry to the park – normally £7 – plus Pimm’s or a soft drink and cake. Tea and coffee will be available. There will be performances from our own guitar and ukulele groups. If you like, you could arrive early and spend an hour or two exploring the park or enjoying a coffee at the lakeside Reverie restaurant before joining the picnic.
Park staff will be operating a buggy service to ferry members from the car park to the picnic site, which is on a plateau overlooking the lake.
Please book and pay using the form below. Admission will be with the booking reference that will be emailed to you. If you know someone who doesn’t have email, please offer to book for them too. If you are unable to book online please contact Ianthe Cox (01737 843105 or ianthecox72@gmail.com) to make reservations and arrange payment.
In the event of rain the picnic will be rescheduled.
Celebrate 35 Years of Dorking and District U3A

Inspired by Betty Wright, a member of Reigate U3A who wanted to see a similar organisation in this area, our founder Jim Docking took up the cudgel and – backed by a great team and much preparatory work – organised a first meeting. On 13 March 1991 some 250 people attended an open meeting in the Christian Centre, with standing room only. It was a day of great excitement and well-justified optimism. Just a month after the launch, membership had passed 100, and by March it was 250.
Now we stand at over 650
