When we think of South Africa, we immediately picture thrilling safaris and the Big Five. But, as Sue Flipping’s talk highlighted, there is so much more to discover. Sue shared how the Garden Route offers an incredible variety of experiences – for example, picturesque coastal towns, hiking through lush forests, adventure activities or simply relaxing while taking in the stunning scenery. We learned that the route is also rich in wildlife beyond the safari parks, with opportunities to see elephants, ostriches, zebras and others. Sue’s talk was a wonderful reminder that South Africa is a destination of remarkable diversity. We were inspired to look beyond the traditional safari experience and consider the Garden Route as a must-visit destination in its own right.
