|Group leader||Beryl Sinclair|
|Meets||First Friday of the month, 2.30-4pm|
We are a small group of art fans who love to talk. The aim of our group meetings is to discuss different forms of art from prehistory to today. We feel lucky that being within easy reach of Polesden Lacey, Petworth House, the Watts Gallery and the Woking Lightbox we can visit exhibitions or buildings on our doorstep, as an inspiration to debate and enlightenment.
In the last three years that we have been running we have considered the works of Van Gogh, Caravaggio, Klimt and the Scottish Colourists; the impact of patronage on art; the natural beauty and mind blowing engineering of Land Art. We usually set a programme for the year based on major exhibitions planned during the year.
Although we tend to keep visits local, in 2019 we explored the exquisite Tudeley Chapel’s Chagall windows.
Currently, we meet regularly on Zoom to discuss virtual art exhibitions or television programmes. So far this year we have explored the origins of Impressionism, modern art trends from Dadaism to Banksy and the life and times of Michelangelo and Raphael.
When we reconvene in 2021 we hope to meet at the Christian Centre in order to make our meetings accessible to all comers, new and not so new. Our programme 2020-21 will include the Art of Slavery, the Art of Innovation and Science, and War photography.
