Art and architecture reveal a lot about the different societies and the cultural shifts that helped create the world we live in.
In our group, rather than focus on individual artists and stylistic periods, we adopt a more thematic approach to our discussions. We explore the evolving role of art through the ages and consider the historical context of architecture and its impact on politics and society and vice versa.
If you want to know what portraits reveal about our ancestors, explore the symbolism and stories behind famous and not so famous art or understand how stone circles evolved into cathedrals, this group is for you.
Our discussions are lively and informative. We do our own research although we occasionally attend lectures by local speakers. This coming year, our sessions will cover medicine in art and the art of pomp and power as well as look at more local architectural styles and buildings.
