Scotney Old Castle
Scotney Castle is a fine country house with formal gardens built between 1843 and 1845 by Edward Hussey the Third. The ruins of a medieval moated manor house, Scotney Old Castle, create a romantic folly as the centrepiece of a picturesque landscape.
We plan to have morning coffee on arrival but you can bring a packed lunch or visit the tearoom for locally sourced food cooked on the premises.

Bateman’s
After lunch we travel on to Bateman’s, a sandstone Jacobean mansion built in 1634 and now known as the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902 until his death in 1936.
There is a tearoom here offering homemade refreshments. We plan to leave at 4.30pm.
Cost: £30 to include coach, driver’s gratuity and morning coffee.
♦ NB. National Trust members will need to bring their membership cards for free entry to the properties. Entry for non-members will be £16.15 for Scotney Castle and £14.25 for Bateman’s – to be paid on the day of the visit.
