BUT the rain had been falling for most of the day and was forecast to continue. My waterproofs were excellent, but the towpaths had turned into quagmires which I often had to push Milly through.
Things would only get worse. Should I take to the very hilly roads again and abandon the towpaths?
Time for a holiday, to allow the paths to dry out and me to rest. The spa town of Buxton was a short train ride away, a hotel room easy to book, so this weekend I am celebrating four more weeks of travel.
And tonight I am going to see The Mikado at Buxton's famous Opera House. In the meantime, a gentle wander around this centre of Victorian opulence and grandeur...
