Welcome to a reading group with a difference – one that focuses on historical events or people and one where you can choose what you read.
We meet in Dorking Library on the second Friday every other month or as agreed.
Each member of the group chooses their preferred books or other medium (magazine articles, film or podcasts), fiction or non-fiction. We then meet to share our personal research findings, highlighting some of the misconceptions between the books we have read.
This year we have concentrated our study on Empress Matilda and Eleanor of Aquitaine with a special focus on the role of royal wives and medieval women. We also considered new findings about Richard II and his role in the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower. And finally, we looked at how Henry VIII’s upbringing as a Renaissance prince might explain his attitudes toward family, women, and courtly life.
