The Watts Gallery is set in Limnerslease, the home of the celebrated Victorian artist and sculptor George Frederick Watts and his wife, Mary. A fine collection of their work is displayed in the house along with paintings by more modern artists in a separate gallery.
While we are there a temporary exhibition of Helen Allingham’s paintings will also be on show. In the morning, we will be taken round the village with its studios, little shops and the gallery, saving the tour of the house and chapel for the afternoon.
The Watts Memorial Chapel, designed by Mary Watts, is a short walk away. It is an unforgettable circular little building, uniquely decorated with murals that completely cover the walls and ceiling. The whole is set among the Arts and Crafts tombstones in the small churchyard.
You could get lunch at the Kiln restaurant or take your own picnic.
