Inigo Jones’s architectural masterpiece, the Queen’s House, has recently reopened after a major restoration and is not to be missed. Now full of great art, including the iconic Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I, the Palladian mansion’s Great Hall has a new look with a ceiling designed by Turner Prize winner Richard Wright. Entrance is free.
Also free is the nearby National Maritime Museum, although there is a charge for viewing the special Emma Hamilton Exhibition.
Within walking distance Greenwich has something to interest everyone. Stand on the Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory, take in the stunning views of London from the top of the hill, see a show at the Planetarium, visit the Cutty Sark, browse in the famous covered market, and do not overlook the Fan Museum.
