This is the city of dreaming spires – and thousands of manic students on bicycles. You may wish to spend the whole day browsing round the museum with its famous collection of art and archaeology. There is a café downstairs and a smarter restaurant upstairs and there are plenty of places to sit down in the galleries. Otherwise, there are some beautiful buildings to admire in the town: the Sheldonian Theatre, for example, the Radcliffe Camera or the 15th-century Bodleian Library. You can visit the latter but, be warned, there are a lot of stairs. It is pleasant to wander round following one’s nose just absorbing the atmosphere among the old honey-coloured colleges. Oxford is flat, but you will probably want to walk about, so come prepared.
