Bees & Honey: Tradition, Myth, Symbol & Magic
Bees and honey have been with us from the earliest times so it’s no wonder they appear in many of our oldest myths and legends. We take a light-hearted look at some of these stories and how they continue to influence us and how different aspects of bees and honey permeate our popular culture. We also take a look at some of the old traditions in beekeeping and how many of them are still alive and well.
Our speaker is Peter Smith, beekeeper, all-round bug enthusiast and writer. His fully illustrated talks are designed to entertain as well as inform and are aimed at everyone with an interest in the natural world. He tries to improve the awareness of some of the problems faced by our native pollinators and offer practical suggestions on what we can do to help them. He also works closely with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
As seen on TV: Peter presented a section on bees and pollinators on the BBC’s Countryfile edition aired in April 2024.
