At January’s Monthly Meeting, we were pleased to welcome Neil Hanson for his talk ‘The Ghostwriter’. Neil offered us a compelling insight into the craft of storytelling and the often-hidden role of the ghostwriter and collaborative authorship. He explained how the task requires not only technical skill, but also empathy, adaptability and restraint. The goal, he noted, is not to impose one’s own voice, but to faithfully represent another’s perspective while maintaining high literary standards. Throughout the talk, Neil illustrated his points with anecdotes from his own writing experiences, giving us a rare behind-the-scenes view of the ghostwriting experience. Neil’s humour, wit and entertaining style kept us all entranced.
