Dorking U3A’s first quiz night was a huge hit, with nine teams vying for the title of champions.
The teams answered questions in seven categories covering current affairs, geography, films, sport, art and literature and two picture rounds.
Almost 70 U3A members attended the function which was held at the Rialto restaurant, South Street, Dorking, on Tuesday 2 February.
In a closely-fought contest the Addicts team, representing the Art Appreciation group, were triumphant, scoring 67 marks out of a possible 75.
Runners-up were the five members from the Myths group and the Amici contestants representing the Latin for Today group, who both scored 66.
The Dragons, from the Mahjong group, were in fourth place. Other teams were from the Gardening group, Line Dancing, Creative Writing, Philosophy and Current Issues.
A meal of pasta, pizza and salad was provided in the entrance price, and a raffle was held for a selection of great prizes. The proceeds from the evening will go towards costs of the 25th anniversary celebrations.
Chairman Phyllis Hughes said: “The evening exceeded all expectations and was so successful that there were demands to repeat the event.”
