Salve et carpe diem!
Dorking’s enthusiastic Latin for Today group has been active for over seven years. Our informal, all-encompassing group follows the Cambridge Latin Course for language and grammar consideration then link our study to everyday life, both present and in Roman times.
Personal research is encouraged, and we share this in each session. We enjoy how Latin is relevant to other disciplines/themes, such as medicine, the law, science, horticulture and art. For inspiration we look at Latin poetry/prose texts and Roman mythology.
Summer visits have been to the British Museum’s Pompeii exhibition, the Museum of London, Bignor Roman villa and Fishbourne Palace. These visits inform and extend our understanding and enjoyment of the Roman world.
Latin lives on! There is a definite revival and resurgence of interest in the UK press, books, radio and TV – and we are pleased to be part of this.
