Geographer and former Ministry of Defence map research officer Tony Painter explores the origins and meanings of place names, ranging from towns and villages, down to farms, fields and even pubs, highlighting the historic insight they provide into a past way of life.
Tony, who writes local history notes for Alan Godfrey maps, has appeared on local radio and has spoken at a range of venues in the Home Counties and the West Country. This illustrated and light-hearted talk will cover some local place names of interest.
