A talk by former convict John Bowers who, following his experience in solitary confinement in the segregation unit at Dartmoor Prison, resolved to turn his life around.
He says: “I now have not only the knowledge of what it is like to be a criminal/prisoner but also an awareness of the deep-rooted problems that society continues to face when attempting to deal with criminals.”
He regularly speaks to school pupils and says: “My approach is never self-pitying and I am always careful not to glamorise crime. I paint a powerful, realistic picture of how criminal activity can impact on so many lives; along with the problems faced by offenders of all ages.”
