Scarcely a day goes by without images of a terrorist attack flashing across our TV screens. No part of the world seems immune to these attacks, which are usually blamed on Islamic terrorism. Since Islam claims to be a religion of peace and the majority of Muslims worldwide condemn these atrocities, we ask the question, ‘Why?’ This question will form the basis of our four talks. From the early period of Islamic history through to today we will attempt to identify the root causes of militant Islam.
The speaker, Canon Dr Anne Davison, has had a lifelong interest in history and religions of the world and studied both topics for her first degree and doctorate. She was adviser in inter-religious relations with the Church of England, vice-moderator of the World Council of Churches in Geneva and has sat on numerous advisory bodies for inter-religious relations.
