‘Alzheimer’s disease – the current situation and hopes for the future’ is the title of Guildford area U3A’s annual lecture on Monday 3 April at 2pm in the Rik Medlik Lecture Theatre (Management School) at the University of Surrey.
The speaker will be Prof John Hardy, who took up the Chair of Molecular Biology of Neurological Disease at the UCL Institute of Neurology in 2007. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to science, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2009.
In 2015 Prof Hardy was the first UK winner of the $3m Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for his work on dementia, and generously agreed to give £50,000 from the prize money towards the construction of the new Dementia Research Institute at UCL. The institute will bring together researchers to lead national and international efforts to find effective treatments and improve the lives of those with dementia.
Arriva operates a regular bus service to the campus. Services 17, 27 and 37 run approximately every 10 minutes during the day and the main bus stop is adjacent to the Rik Medlik building. There is also a pay-and-display car park.
Refreshments will be served at 3.30pm in the Rik Medlik building foyer.
