In this talk, Russell Whitworth looks at artificial intelligence: what is it, how does it work, what is it good for, and what are the dangers and issues?
Starting with a brief look at the history of AI, this talk explains generative AI, such as ChatGPT, and gives everyday examples of how it can be used. We will also consider some of the issues – such as ‘hallucinations’, fake news, and power consumption – and look to the future of artificial general intelligence.
Russell is a retired management consultant who spent his career in the telecommunications industry, mainly building mobile phone networks around the world. He is a member of Guildford and Wokingham u3as as well as a member of the national AI for Everyone project team.
