Day 1: on the way to our hotel in Buxton, we visited Charlecote Park, Warwickshire

At last, relaxing in the hotel bar after a busy day walking and sightseeing!

Day 2: Historic Bakewell – some chose to explore the old church and town, others sought out the sweeter delights in the shape of Bakewell Puddings. In the afternoon, Chatsworth offered more adventurous visitors an opportunity to play music in the grandiose library.

At Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, modern design and classical lines meld to offer visitors a unique experience of art forever on the move

Day 3: Renishaw Hall, home of the Sitwell family for almost 400 years, was small and intimate and still lived in

Day 4: a leisurely walk around Buxton in the rain with our Blue Badge Guide Sam; followed by living history at Quarry Bank Mill, a restored cotton mill, and the apprentice house on the Styal Estate

Day 5: Viewing masterpieces by Canaletto, El Greco and Bruegel close up at Upton House, home to Lord Bearsted
