Our wish is to respond positively to interest expressed by members in the creation of new U3A groups, writes Groups Co-ordinator Lionel Cartlidge.
There are, of course, some details which should be agreed at the outset. These include suitable locations, resources needed and probable costs arising. It will also be highly desirable to discuss the practical management of each new group and to identify a member who will be the first point of contact.
I propose, therefore, to hold a preliminary meeting at the Lincoln Arms on Thursday 8 June to discuss the establishment of the following new groups:
- Opera Appreciation: starting at 2.30pm
- Table Tennis: starting at 3pm. The proposal in this case is to play from 12 noon to 2pm at the Christian Centre, Dorking, every Friday. There is no room for manoeuvre as this is the only available time and day at present. We need to establish how many members will be interested and to clarify the costs.
- Art Appreciation: starting at 3.15pm. The current group is full and we would like to find out whether there will be sufficient demand to set up a second group.
If you will be unable to attend but would like to record your interest in any of the above groups, please email or telephone me in the first instance.
I would also like to remind members that the Birdwatching group has been started and more information can be obtained from me or from Tricia Smart (triciasmart@btinternet.com). A preliminary meeting will also be held shortly for those who are interested in the proposed Ukulele group.
We always welcome proposals for new groups whether or not you will be willing to lead them. I look forward to seeing as many members as possible on 8 June.
