Two of our newer groups have lined up sessions that members might find of interest, as Geoff Saunders reports.
Wine Appreciation
We had a very successful evening at the Lincoln Arms on 6 September, when Barrie presented ‘Black Reds’, dark and tasty wines from Laithwaites. Rather than pick the usual suspects, he presented wines from more unusual sources and with more unusual grapes. It’s rare indeed to be able to sample six such diverse wines with excellent accompanying notes. We all left with new ideas for our future tippling!
The next meeting will be in early November, when Linda, one of our founding members, will arrange a return to Majestic, this time to sample fine wines. The cost may seem high, but the £20 fee buys you a £20 voucher to spend at Majestic, so the wine experience is really FREE! Places are limited, so do get in touch by the usual route: tallship@eircom.net.
French Conversation 2
We have got off to a slow start, but hope to build up a bit of momentum over the autumn. We will meet twice a month on the second and fourth Fridays in members’ houses. We all describe ourselves as ‘not beginners’ and hope to build up our competence with topic-based discussion and the odd input from a real teacher! Membership is open to all, so do get in touch. The next meeting will be hosted by Bob on Friday 23 September. You can contact him on robertcrooks@rocketmail.com.
