A new system aimed at making it easier for members to join groups is being introduced in Dorking U3A.
New committee member Penny Tompkins has been appointed to the role of Groups Liaison Officer. Her task will be to place members in groups they wish to join. If groups have reached capacity then the committee will immediately investigate a second, or even third group.
It is hoped that this will prevent a log jam in the most popular groups and expand the number of groups available.
Current leaders will be invited to assist, advise and mentor those in any new groups.
Planning and setting up of these will remain the responsibility of groups co-ordinators Lionel Cartlidge and Geoff Saunders, whose roles do not change.
Chairman Phyllis Hughes said: “Lionel and Geoff have been highly successful in helping with the forming of new groups.
“However it has become apparent that the committee lacks information about the needs of the members and the new role should give Lionel and Geoff the information they need for their valuable work.”
Anyone who wants to join an interest group should in future contact Penny Tompkins on 01483 203288.
