Back in early February Dorking U3A’s publicity officer Pat Smith took leave from her committee duties and got on her bike to undertake an ambitious cycling tour of the British Isles under the title of the Elderflower Project.
Her aim was to meet older people to talk about about the wisdom they’ve gathered over the years and share her experiences along the way in her blog.
Pat has already cycled around Ireland, visiting Galway, Sligo, Donegal, the Antrim Coast and Belfast, ending her tour in Dublin on St Patrick’s Day. She was interviewed by BBC Radio Derry on her way through that city while a guest of the local U3A.
She is now in northern Scotland, having cycled to the northernmost tip of Shetland and visited Neolithic sites in Orkney.
Pat writes with great humour and insight about the places she’s visited, seeking out historical connections and attracting the attention of friendly and interesting folk wherever she goes.
