We’ve had a report from the Portfolio Management group on its investment competition for a champagne prize. From a comfortable seat in the grandstand its correspondent writes:
“The seven-month sprint got under way on 1 March with a small field of eight entries coming under starter’s orders.
“Heather Jones got off to a flying start and at the end of the first month she was maintaining her lead. Her mini portfolio was showing an impressive gain of 12.6%, far outstripping the FTSE 100 advance of 1.3%, and each of her three selections performed strongly.
“There is a long way to go, however, and the conditions and going may worsen. Notably there is the feared Referendum obstacle to negotiate in mid-course. There are bound to be doubts about her stamina, and she could easily be caught by any of the other runners.
“We hope to report monthly on progress.”
