Happy new year to all our members as we look forward to the activities and events planned for Dorking U3A’s 25th anniversary in 2016.
First of all I hope you like the new website. Mike Docker has produced a much more accessible and user-friendly site packed with news, information and articles about Dorking U3A. Look out for an ongoing series of pieces highlighting the anniversary, including interviews with founder members, a look back at what was in the news in 1991, a reminder of the weather in the run-up to the formation of our U3A, and lots of pictures.
If you can add to this list, please send comments, pictures and stories for inclusion on the site to editor@dorkingu3a.org.uk. Lots of you must have memories of your time with the U3A and all of this would be welcome.
As you know, there is a programme of social events ranging from a quiz in February to a gala dinner in June. There will be a special Dorking U3A open day on Wednesday 26 October at the Christian Centre, when I hope as many groups as possible will stage demonstrations or give information about their activities.
This is an ideal opportunity to show potential new members what we are about and hopefully recruit some new blood.
Many group leaders have already come forward with ideas for how their group can celebrate the anniversary, and I hope that many more will be able to join in the day in October.
Sadly one of our newer committee members, Michael Potts, has stepped down, so once again we are on the lookout for anyone who is willing to give up a few hours a month to join us in running our valuable organisation. Please let me, or any other committee member, know if you are able to help. Our thanks to Michael for the valuable contribution he has made.
I look forward to meeting more of you over the coming months and celebrating the success of our well-established group.
