Three concert packages for U3A members are being offered by national office. They include an exclusive talk and ticket to the show with lunch at the Town Hall, Birmingham, on Friday 12 February, Sunday 3 April and Saturday 2 July 2016.
The first concert features the pianists Maria João Pires and Miloš Popović performing duets by Schubert and two of Beethoven’s most glorious keyboard works: the sunlit Waldstein sonata and the profound and poetic late Sonata in C minor, Op 111.
On 3 April hear two of the finest British artists of their generation performing some of the most heartfelt music ever written for piano and voice, as Mark Padmore and Paul Lewis pair Beethoven’s only song cycle with Schubert’s last.
And, finally, on 2 July three outstanding young pianists, aged 18-28, will make it to the final of the Brant International Piano Competition, having proved their mettle in challenging earlier rounds. Join us for some talent-spotting and hear tomorrow’s young lions of the keyboard vie with one another for this coveted prize.
Tickets are £25 per person per concert, including lunch and pre-concert talk. Please note: there is a maximum allocation of 80 tickets per concert. Birmingham Town Hall is in Victoria Square, Birmingham B3 3DQ. Booking forms are available from the Events area of the U3A national website.
